ASTTI Financial Translation Summer School

Spiez, Switzerland

The biennial ASTTI Financial Translation Summer School, held over three days in Spiez (Switzerland), is designed specifically with today’s financial translators in mind. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or looking to break into the market, don’t miss this opportunity to come and hear about the latest developments in the financial world straight from the experts.

In the mornings, finance professionals from Switzerland and further afield will give in-depth presentations on topics ranging from financial instruments and risk management to banking regulation and macroeconomics. All the talks are geared towards providing financial translators with the background knowledge they need to translate even the most complex texts accurately.

At Spiez, practice is just as important as theory. In the afternoons, you’ll therefore be given the chance to get some hands-on practice in the language-specific workshops run by seasoned financial translators. Workshops are available for those working into English, French, German and Italian.

This year for the first time, we’ll also be holding language-specific translation slams. Two translators will present their versions of a pre-prepared translation and discuss their translation choices together, giving you the chance to see how those at the top of their trade grapple with specialized texts. Audience members will be able to ask questions, provide input and share their own translations as well.

Time is also set aside for networking. On the first evening, we’ll be serving drinks and giving you the chance to hear about the research projects being conducted by selected Master’s students. Another highlight of the conference, on the Thursday evening, will be our gala dinner cruise on Lake Thun – the perfect opportunity to take in the magnificent Swiss landscape.
