They spoke about Spiez 2019:

Why Overseas Translation Conferences Are Non-Negotiable – By Amanda N. Williams.

While most of America was grilling out, drinking beer and enjoying the fireworks on the 4th of July, I was sitting in a conference room learning about hedging foreign exchange (FX) risk, the transition from LIBOR and EURIBOR to alternative interest rates, BASEL 3 capital requirements and interest rate benchmarks, and participating in workshops on how to edit for the European Central Bank and write clear corporate communications, among other things. I plan on spending my 4th of July holiday the same way every year.

Registration is now open for the 2019 ASTTI Financial Translation Conference!

March 2019

As in previous years, we will be delving deeply into a vast range of business and financial topics. Experts from central banks, European finance industry and Swiss universities will be giving their assessment on the world a decade after the financial crisis, examining how recent economic and political developments are impacting businesses, financial service providers and consumers. There will also be talks on shadow banking, exchange-rate risk, money-market funds, derivative regulation and SRI, not to mention a timely look at how behavioural economics affects the field of communications.

The programme of language-specific workshops – run by experienced financial translators or communications specialists – will be just as varied. There will be a two-part workshop on banking regulation, together with sessions on trading, asset management, derivatives, and corporate communications.

For the first time, we will be holding translation slams into each of the conference’s languages, during which two seasoned translators will compare their translations of a given text. Translators in the audience will be encouraged to join in by asking questions and presenting their alternatives.

And there will be time to network and unwind, thanks to an enthralling evening programme.

Spaces are limited, and our early-bird reduction is available until 1 May. We look forward to seeing you this summer in Spiez, on the shores of idyllic Lake Thun.

Save the Date

October 2018

It’s time to save the date for ASTTI’s next financial translation conference. The event will take place from 3 to 5 July 2019 in Spiez, on Switzerland’s Lake Thun – an area of outstanding natural beauty.

More information about what to expect at next year’s conference will be available nearer the time, but we can already tell you that monetary policy, behavioral finance and insurance will be among the key themes discussed by our expert speakers.

If you work into German, French, Italian or English, you will also be able to choose from a range of language-specific financial translation workshops run by seasoned translators. And for the first time, we’ll also be holding a number of translation slams, giving you the chance to see how those at the top of their trade grapple with specialized texts.

We’re also looking for students from Switzerland’s translation schools to present the finance-related research conducted during their studies. We hope to see you all in Spiez next summer!
